Dearly beloved fellow believers in Christ,
Greetings to you in the Name of Our Risen Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you for visiting to nourish the believers coming from India to Kuwait from various denominations and traditions to have a fellowship, worship and to grow spiritually in 1998. St. John’s Tamil CSI Church in Kuwait is to unite the Tamil Christian families in Kuwait under the leadership of an episcopally ordained Presbyter to endow them with the noble experience of the spirituality and culturally enriched trained worship of the Church of South India.
The St. John’s Tamil CSI Church affirms that the Church is the Servant of God to carry on the mission rooted in Jesus Christ based on the Scriptures. The Cross continues to be the sign of hope for the witnessing Church, which strives towards Unity, Peace and Reconciliation as a vibrant Channel of God.
Christ is making His church to display His glory – a communion of Saints to enjoy Him forever. Accordingly, our church is ecumenical in outlook and moving towards achieving a true fellowship among its members belonging to various traditions and denominations through its enriched Mission and Ministry model, which established in the Nazareth Manifesto of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Luke 4:18&19.
Our church is also striving to fulfill her high calling to serve, but not to be served in the midst of complex situations of our time, through its various activities of reaching the unreached.
With a genuine Christian Spirit, we welcome you to our congregation and it is our desire that you will find assistance in managing your involvement in life together as a church family. We do believe that you will find answers to your quest that brought you to this site. Our prayer is that you would experience the fullness of God’s Grace through His son Jesus Christ, Our Lord and we firmly believe that you find you “Home Church Worship” experience in Kuwait. At the start of the St. John’s Tamil CSI Church Kuwait, the common council insisted us to start the church with short notice. Because of Rev. Itty Matthew’s generous acceptance to be the Presbyter, we could declare the church on “Tuesday 10-11-1998”. He has conducted the Holy Communion Service in Tamil. Even though he does not know to read and write Tamil, conducted services for six months period, by writing the order of service transliterated in Tamil.
We have started our genesis on 10th November 1998, in the North Tent of the National Evangelical Churches in Kuwait (NECK) Campus, when a group of Tamil Christians in Kuwait, who were from various Church denominations worshipping under independent lay leaderships as Christian Tamil Congregation Kuwait, decided to have an ordained presbyter for their spiritual nourishment and shepherding care and The Holy Spirit of the Only True Shepherd Jesus Christ made their vision come true.
It was unquenchable desire of the majority members of the Kuwait Tamil Christian Congregation to bring a Tamil CSI Church in Kuwait and Mr. H.B. Jeevaraj Thomas, (Late) Mr. M. Rajan, Mr. Justin Bright, Mr. Paul C. Samuel and (Late) Mr. K. Jesudhas, took the lead with many other committed Christians. (Late) Mr. K.P. Koshy, the then vice-president of the Common Council initiated serious measures in getting official approval from the common council of the NECK. The common council of the NECK gave its approval to our church and the North Tent of the NECK Campus was allocated as the worship venue.
A constitution, based on the CSI constitution was drafted and the Order of Worship used was based on the Book of Common Worship of the Church of South India. Our church got official approval from the Synod of the Church of South India as of August 2002. Rev. P. Boaz, a presbyter from Kanyakumari Diocese, was appointed as the first presbyter by Synod of CSI and he ministered from December 1999 to April 2003. Till then Rev. Itty Matthew, a Malayalam presbyter worked in one of the school as principal, Mr. Charles Mohan, a church worker from Madurai Diocese and Rev. Kanagadhas, a presbyter from Kanyakumari Diocese were temporarily appointed by the Church Committee to conduct worship services in the Church. After Rev. P. Boaz, many presbyters ministered in our church from various dioceses.
